Following the Moon: Open the Door

Welcome to ‘Following the Moon’ for the week of Monday, March 28 through Sunday, April 3. We have 6 days remaining in the final ‘Purity’ Moon cycle of the Natural Year. Here is the place each year where we’re given the opportunity to forgive and release all that has visited in the twelve months just walked through.
Our phases this week are Third (or Last) Quarter and Balsamic, bringing us to the first New Moon for the Natural Year on Sunday, April 3.

The Third Quarter phase began March 26 and extends a full four days through Wednesday morning, March 30.

The Third Quarter moon phase is the most accomplished area of the monthly cycle. Arriving here aligns us with thanksgiving. There is a level of maturity required before we can freely engage in such a practice and each month these few days allow us to exercise our gratitude muscle.

Following the Moon: Passing of the Dream

Welcome to ‘Following the Moon’ for the week of March 14 – March 21… the ‘Purity’ Moon cycle of the Natural Year.

This is a useful time to remind yourself that lunar phases help to track and keep pace with your emotions. So in essence, as you come to this last four week cycle each year, you will hopefully be completing the release of built up, pent-up, outgrown, and futile backlogs in this department.

Our phases this week span the First Quarter (take an action on you ‘Purity’ goal) which began Saturday evening (EST), March 12 extending through Wednesday morning. Wednesday, March 16, through Saturday, March 19, we experience the Gibbous phase (analyze and filter your action) and on that day in the mid-afternoon we step into the Full Moon (illuminate & experience your goal) and the Spring Equinox, the New Natural year, meeting us on Sunday evening. It’s a packed week.

Those of you who have been syncing your intuitive guidance with ‘Following the Moon’ know that you have been building toward this point for the last 90 days, since Winter’s Solstice. Since that shortest, darkest day, we’ve been building quietly, inwardly, meditatively. We’ve been consciously connecting to that which we would be willing to birth ‘come the spring’.

SWAN Day

It may not translate very well here but we had a marvelous afternoon yesterday taking part in the international festival: Supporting Women Artists Now (SWAN)...we held our event at Selden Gallery in downtown Norfolk, Virginia where my work is currently on exhibit. We gathered to welcome spring and to embrace the new beginning for our individual and collective creative voices as we all enter the East Gate of the wheel, signaled by the Spring Equinox and the start of the Aries cycle.

First we explored the gifts and the challenges that the earth calendar wheel offers then we laid the foundation for the building of the wheel... you can see bits of its intial stages here on the floor...later, after this pattern was set, we each ceremonially placed 'stones' for the 36 position around the wheel...and culminated with a 'Spiraling into the Center' dance (with song) that created the finale for our performance art afternoon.

Funny thing...I use stones for the wheel but this day the lugging would've destroyed the fun so I pondered. Stones...? Stones...? And what came is russett potatoes! So I ran out and purchased a good supply, augmented with a few yams, and we laid our wheel using potaotes...it was pretty much a blast....and a fine way to honor the earth and the Earth Mother for her bounty.

Perhaps at our next event which is April 13 'Moon Day at the Wren' we'll pop those potaotes into our fire and when baked we can 'consume the energy of the wheel'. yum.
