May You Be At Peace

Another mantra, this one based upon the beauty of Metta. Metta is one of my favorite ways of moving through the world. There are four repetitions...the first verse honors the self and is considered 'wise selfish'. The second, third and fourth rounds sound just the same but are directed first to someone you love. Second time to someone who is neutral...like a store clerk or passerby. The third, requiring courage, is to send Metta to an enemy...personal, global...something or someone who steals your balance.

Goes like this:

May I be at peace.
May my heart remain open.
May I awaken to the light of my own true nature.
May I be healed.
May I be a source of healing for all beings.

second, third and fourth round repeats:

May you be at peace.
May your heart remain open.
May you awaken to the light of your own true nature.
May you be healed.
May you be a source of healing for all beings.

Perhaps you too will find a sense of calm and quiet visit as you practice...I wish this for you.

  1. I love the metta prayer. I've used it at the end of yoga class, a peaceful ending to a peaceful experience!

  2. Metta is a wonderful way to close a yoga session. Such a benefit for all.
I give periodic talks on the common ground between Buddhism and Unity for a Unity Fellowship group near here. They now request Metta at every visit...I call it PH.d meditation practice because that last repetition requires some stamina that ain't necessarily easy on this sweet little planet these days. Not easy but so beautiful.

  3. I'll post a picture of the swallows soon and give some background info on it. Life is BUSY right now! Back to school, barn building...so it goes!
